we're grownups now, and it's OUR turn to decide what that means
ZOMG.

So, today? Pretty much FREAKING AWESOME. ♥

Roommate!Amanda, [info]assiduous1, and I met up at Park Street Station at about noon, took the red line to Davis, got off, and promptly got lost repeatedly because we have equally awful senses of direction. But with the help of some kindhearted strangers and a lot more walking than was strictly necessary, we made it to the park with more than half an hour to spare!

We bought T-shirts for $10 a pop; mine has an image of Hat Guy on the front with the text "dreams are real", and the coordinates on the back, and I utterly love it. We took pictures of the tape measure contest, and then we took turns trying our own luck; of the three of us, I did the best with a personal record of 100 inches, but couldn't come close to the better players--at one point, the record was 150 inches, I don't know if that got beat. We cheered on a guy walking around with a CITATION NEEDED protest sign. We took pictures of the chalk drawings on the sidewalk, with such inspiring messages as "Plz SUDO use chalk (DNE)", and of the replacement park sign:

At 2:38 exactly, we were crammed up against the park fence--we'd been watching the crowd try to fit about a thousand people on the jungle gym--when Randall made his appearance. ♥♥♥ The result? I was standing RIGHT NEXT to him during his speech. I made a really awful crack about kids getting crushed by our barrage and he looked right at me. His speech was really great--featuring the line, "So I guess wanting something DOES make it real"--and got lots of applause and cheers and somebody yelling "We love you, Randall!" And then he directed us to the whiteboards that had been set up to "correct the comic" (since, obviously, people turned up!) and Amanda, [info]assiduous1, and I were among the first to draw on them!

(I drew a sketch of Hat Guy, a heart, and added the words "xkcd has CHANGED my life--dreams come true!" Ys, I'm a dork.)

On our way out, a velociraptor made a pass at [info]assiduous1 to our collective delight. I stole a flyer that had been taped to a post--an advertisement for a local cafe that riffed on an xkcd comic. We hit up the cafe, walked a fellow xkcdian to the T station, got ice cream at a local place, and could not stop talking about how UTTERLY AWESOME the day was. And how I probably should have said something to Randall. Or jumped at him and made out with him, whichever.

...seriously. Today was AWESOME.

More pics coming once I get copies of ours from Amanda, or when more people upload theirs to facebook. Or if Randall shares some on the site! That would be awesome. ♥

I have found SO many pictures through <ljuser="xkcd_meetup">. So far I've saved almost 70 to my own hard drive, and I'm still going through them. *flails*

Santa Man, we owe you one!!! ♥

And that link, obviously, was meant to be [info]xkcd_meetup. *sigh*

I hope they came out. :/ As soon as Amanda gets them uploaded and shares them with me I will let you know and send them to you or somesuch thing.

Let me know how the shirt stands up to the washing! I'm a little bit nervous about washing mine, I admit.

I TOTALLY FAIL at linking today, apparently.

If that one doesn't work, I give up.

shirt
the shirt stood the test...i did not dry it though because i was afraid that the head would melt the design. It seems to have done well.

Re: shirt
Ooh, that's good to know...and, yeah, drying might prove a difficult. Hmm. Must think on this.
