March 20 - March 23 in review )

I miss Massachusetts already.

The concert review is going to go up shortly, and I'm going to take some time replying to comments and going back through my flist and things like that. I might miss stuff so if there's something that happened this weekend that you think I should know about, drop a comment or a link or whatnot.

I missed you!

  • I made fudge! It's currently cooling on the counter. I'm looking forward to it.

  • Today's mail brought the concert tickets! *celebrates* This Friday, the House of Blues, kids. Shane fuckin' MacGowan.

  • ...sometimes I feel bad about how much I fangirl Shane without stopping to note that, yes, I am a fan of the band as a whole, and, no, Shane-minus-the-Pogues wouldn't be quite as awesome. So take this as a note that when I fangirl Shane, fangirling the rest of the band is implied to be part of it. ...but I really am a huge fan of Shane himself.

  • On a different note, vidders on my flist, could you offer any help? I've been trying to render a vid in Windows Movie Maker (yes, yes, I know) for about three days now. Every time, the actual rendering seems to go fine -- it'll hang for a couple seconds, then continue on -- but when I play the video the image will freeze at a certain point. The audio will continue on fine, but the picture will be frozen -- and it's at a different point each time I try rendering. I have no idea what's going on. Any advice?

  • [info]metafandom is covering RaceFail09. I wish I had something enlightening to say here, or a good way of summing up the whole thing, but I don't and I can't. So I'm just gonna say that there's a lot of intelligent, eloquent people saying a lot of things that a lot of people -- me included -- ought to listen to. Also, there's a lot of fail in fandom. Well, in the world in general, but I like to think fandom slants towards more intelligent, accepting people, and it's always sad when that belief is proved wrong.

  • This is another one of those "I'm sure I had other things to talk about but I don't remember what they were" bullet points. Sorry.

So far today I've called Artist Arena to switch my concert tickets to the Friday show, sent off resume/references/letter to three theaters with job openings (an ME position, an assistant ME position, and a light board op position), and submitted "The End Of The Road (Is The Beginning Of Your Life)" to [info]fic_tossed for a review. It's kind of sad that the most recent Whofic I've written was in September '07.

And! Artist Arena just e-mailed me again to tell me that the deal's been upgraded and now they'll be refunding the full cost of the tickets, so I'll be going to see the Friday show free of charge. Which is kind of awesome, yo. I mean it's not awesome that they're this desperate to get people to switch to Friday, and I feel bad for the people who can't switch and who might wind up getting turned away from the door on Saturday, and HoB kind of sucks for overselling their show, but I'm going to see the Pogues for no cost. That's kind of awesome.

Also that one Harper vid I was talking about several posts a month or so ago is very nearly done.

All in all, a good day so far.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with Artist Arena about the Pogues concert -- apparently the House of Blues oversold the Saturday show by accident. To try to fix that problem, they're offering a deal (to the presale customers, like me, first) -- 50% rebate on your tickets if you agree to go see the Friday show instead.

I gotta talk to my dad before I agree to this -- given that we'll be spending all of Friday morning on a plane, he might not be amiable to immediately turning around and hitting a concert -- but as long as I get to see my Shane in Boston I don't much care when it is.

Just over two weeks to go until Boston, in any case.

*flails a bit*

I will be in Boston March 20 - March 23. Will anyone else be in the area? Right now the only solid plans we've got are for the concert Saturday night (SHAAAAANE); we're looking at other stuff to do, and planning to do some tourist-y things, but I wouldn't mind meeting up with someone.

There's been some serious fail over at [info]fanficrants recently. Why is that?

Can I be slightly narcissistic for a minute here? I got a positive review today on "In The Mood", and OMG, you have no idea how flattered I am that I'm still getting reviews on that fic almost two years later. I'm really proud of it, and I know how egotistical that sounds, but it's really a big mood-booster.

You know what? Prior to today, I'm fairly sure I hadn't heard Brooks & Dunn's "Boot-Scootin' Boogie" for years (and I gotta say? I didn't miss it). But I've heard it three times today. Why?

On a brighter musical note, today I walked into a store and they were playing Flogging Molly's "Kings Of The Kilburn High", and I had glee.

> Teh Niki's definitely out of the Boston trip. :( I'm gonna call the airline and cry at them and see if they'll transfer one of the plane tickets to a different name, since I already know I can't get a refund. If I can, I'll transfer her ticket to my dad's name. No go - tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. Blah. Going to try to get my dad to scrape up the cash for his own ticket. Tickets bought! Managed to get him on the same flights. :) Going to Boston with my dad won't be the same, but dammit, I'm going to Boston and I'm going to see my Shane if there's any possible way I can make this trip work.

> Today I logged into and updated my fic journal for the first time since...November, and miniNaNo. Uhm. Yay, me? At least I finally did something.

> My W-2s finally arrived today! So maybe I can get some money back! Yay!

> Awesome thing: [info]lgbtfest. Go, join, prompt, wait to claim, whatever. It's got some awesome prompts already.

> ARD is still pretty much the highlight of my day. Almost done with book #5 right now. I love these guys to a ridiculous degree.

> Westley's a dick.
