So is everybody reading this week's xkcd series? Because if not you should be. Because it's AWESOME.

More to the point, does anybody know if Nathan Fillion is reading it? I know somebody on the RSS feed claimed to have tweeted him a link, but I don't know if he actually saw said link or is reading it. If not he should be.

Also, "no, that's the opposite of true" and "things are rarely just crazy enough to work, but they're frequently just crazy enough to fail hilariously" are awesome lines and I'm going to be stealing borrowing at least the first for my Better Than It Sounds 'verse because it's exactly the sort of thing Liam would say to Kyle.

Speaking of.

cut 'cause it's long and probably not of interest; rambling about worldbuilding and original fiction and why I rarely have any actual writing to show for the hours I spend on it )

> Teh Niki's definitely out of the Boston trip. :( I'm gonna call the airline and cry at them and see if they'll transfer one of the plane tickets to a different name, since I already know I can't get a refund. If I can, I'll transfer her ticket to my dad's name. No go - tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. Blah. Going to try to get my dad to scrape up the cash for his own ticket. Tickets bought! Managed to get him on the same flights. :) Going to Boston with my dad won't be the same, but dammit, I'm going to Boston and I'm going to see my Shane if there's any possible way I can make this trip work.

...you know what I would like to see? A Doctor Who/xkcd crossover. With Black Hat Guy and Black Hair Girl as the Doctor's companions. He would be TOTALLY APPALLED by them and their methods, but they would accidentally save the universe through the liberal use of explosives and hacking! And velociraptors. And crossbows and lightsabers. And they would reverse-engineer the TARDIS and then start growing their own. Without the Doctor's permission. And they would critique the scientific holes in the Doctor's technobabble! And epic hat wars! AND IT COULD BE AWESOME.

This complete randomness at least partially inspired by the fact that there now exists in the world Black Hat Guy/Black Hat Girl fic! And it is good.

Fandom Wank is featuring wank about a recent xkcd strip. By which I mean they are mostly featuring complaints from people who don't understand the difference between nice guys and Nice GuysTM. Or who think Randall Munroe is somehow advocating the behavior of Nice GuysTM. Or who think Randall Munroe doubting the existence of genuine nice guys and relationships that grow out of friendships naturally. Or who, for some reason, think Randall Munroe is a Nice GuyTM himself. *flail*

Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than twenty icons, post them all. If you have between twenty and fifty icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, and what significance it has.

Most awesome-tastic thing heard in a while: The Pogues covering "Do You Believe In Magic?" *laughs*

Close second: The radio-friendly version of "Boys From The County Hell", mainly because the lyrics stop making sense when you replace all the profanity. "We got him out the back and we beat him 'til he bawled"? Really?

I would like to apologize for all the emo I've been throwing at you guys lately. So! To make up for it, or at least to take my mind off of it, here are some Awesome Things:

- Ray Tracing Jell-O Brand Gelatin - a .pdf document containing two pages of awesomely ridiculous academia. <3

- Girl Genius - which, I dunno, some of you probably already knew about. And if so, why didn't you tell me about this comic earlier? Or if on the off chance you did, why didn't I listen??? Gaslamp fantasy! It's so completely awesome! I only started reading it today and am up to Vol. 4 and love it.

- My new icon. *points* Hee. It makes me happy, because I have a special fondness for Adam's complete inability to remember his lines, ever.

- M*A*S*H marathon on TV. *is a dork*

- Blue Season - a YouTube video in support of the WGA strike, thrown together by some LOST fans. Completely adorable and v. funny.

- Minuet - the music video for Idina Menzel's song "Minuet", on YouTube. Consists mostly of Idina and Taye goofing off in a VW van and is ridiculously cute.

It's over. :( :( How come I'm always sad when a show ends and I have time to sleep and eat and do homework and mundane stuff like that again?

ANYWAY. It was probably the least-cursed show I have ever worked on. I mean OMG nobody got severely injured (Steve cut his hand up a little bit but not even that much) and there were no huge mistakes during any of the shows and it was seriously a ninja-bunny strike. ALSO OMG, the woman who played Benjamin in the original tour of The Yellow Boat happened to be at Regis on business...she runs an Internet company or something with her husband now...anyway, she saw our posters advertising the show and came down to talk to Steve and Wendy and then she and her husband attended today's show, watched it, and led a post-show discussion with our audience. *flail* HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? That's like, serendipity or something.

I stole one of the No Dolls and got everybody in the cast and crew to sign it. Usually I get everybody to sign a program for me but it felt right to use the doll instead. It's so adorable, though; Meaghan C. made sure to draw an arrow to the doll's face with the note "I DREW THIS!" And the cast gave me a flower and a really sweet card and we all hugged a lot and I maybe cried a little bit. I can't believe this is my last stage management experience as a Regis student. :(

I have, however, been formally offered a paid position as stage manager for Pippin this spring. Of course, in order to take this job I will need a place to live and an additional steady job somewhere else. *flail* Does anybody live in Boston who needs a roommate? *hopeful*

Meme!

How it works: Just comment on this post saying you'd like to play. Then I will choose seven interests from your profile, and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post these instructions along with your answers in your own LiveJournal so that others can play along, too.

And in other news, Rent Remixed is crack. *flail* I mean, no, obviously I am not making a judgment on the show based on listening to one audio recording, and will not comment as to whether I like it or not just yet. But it is CRACK. I mean, "Out Tonight" as a burlesque number? "What You Own" as a ballad? *flails more* It's so bizarre.

And I am considering buying this, because my EHD, as much as I love it, is rapidly starting to run out of space. :(

People should not schedule dry tech and cue-to-cue to be on the same day and separated only by an hour. That hour break will not happen and dry tech will not be complete by the time cue-to-cue starts.

All right, all right, to be fair, it was a relatively painless cue-to-cue especially considering that when it started we had less than half of the show programmed into the light board. And that we were simultaneously training the sound tech and the lighting tech, neither of whom are at all familiar with running a show and halfway make me wish I was doing all the crew work myself except then I would truly be dead. I would be worried about the state of the Regis' theater's tech crew after I leave except I WON'T BE HERE ANYMORE and therefore I don't have to care. Haha. I'm evil, I guess.

We open on Thursday. *flail muchly*

Comment and I'll pick seven of your icons, and then you will explain why you love/are using the icon (who doesn't love talking about their icons, seriously) and then post your explanation/this meme in your journal for other people to squee about their icons, and basically it will be a huge squeefest of love and 100x100 square pixels.

Hey, do you know what is totally NOT made of win? A four-hour power blackout followed by another twelve hours of internet what refuses to work. *growls at the school*

And then, and then, once the power comes back (but before the internet connection does) trying to boot up your laptop only to have it totally fail to respond, panic, spend frantic moments checking power cords and the room lights to make sure there's no reason why the power shouldn't be working, panicking more, walking downstairs to get a drink while continuing to panic and think about how you'll survive if your laptop is really and truly dead, then getting back to your room and realizing that the power strip cord was knocked out of the wall, which is also the reason why your phone has stopped charging and the TV won't turn on. Yes. I am an utter ditz who nearly talked myself into a heart attack.

(Also uncool? Being offline for sixteen-plus hours and then logging into your e-mail to discover a mere five new messages. *sigh* Yes, I'm an e-mail whore.)

I can't bear to face getting caught up on my friendslist because I'm In A Mood, so if you posted anything in, say, the last twenty-four hours that you think I should see, drop me a link and I will check it out.

On brighter notes, Yellow Boat has almost all of its props now! Yay! We still need the Frankenstein bolts. And the dolls are getting made on Wednesday during my Theatre For Young Audiences class. And minor adjustments need to be made to some of the props (clipboards need to be painted, finger puppet needs a grass skirt sewn on, that sort of thing) but this is well and truly Progress. Which is good, 'cause it's October now and we open on the eighteenth.

The cast is supposed to be off-book tonight. I laugh and cringe simultaneously and am somewhat grateful I will miss a large chunk of tonight's rehearsal for class.

Link of the moment: a post connecting Chess and xkcd, two of my Greatest Loves Ever. :D :D :D

No classes tomorrow, but I do have work starting at 9AM.

And, um. Yeah, that's about it. Mostly I'm still sulking about the power/Internet outage. I deserve a good sulk, I think.

So, I went down to the cafe to get dinner because I really don't feel like sitting in the dining hall eating barely-recognizable whatever. And while there I got into a conversation with the guy making my food about, among other things, the straight-edge movement.

I realize this doesn't sound like a big deal. But, um. This is not something I do. I do not have in-depth conversations with people I don't know. I only rarely have in-depth conversations with people I do know. The fact that I don't really know a lot of people who would be interested in talking about the straight-edge movement is irrelevant, because the subject could have been anything that required actual interaction and discussion and I don't do that with people I don't know. I get nervous and nod and smile a lot and mentally plot my escape, because I'm shy and socially awkward.

So, um, I'm not sure whether you should be congratulating me or wondering who possessed me for the duration of this conversation, but there it is, I am still trying to figure out how that happened.

In other news, Dirty Sexy Money may be a new addition to my list of OMGFANDOMS. I think I have to see a few more episodes to decide whether I'm addicted or not. And who my favorite characters will be, although Jeremy has pulled to an early lead. And, well, I'm digging on Juliet more than a bit, too. Are people making icons or writing fic yet? That may help me decide. In any case. Definitely sticking around for a while longer.

The Sweet Charity auction is officially over for this round. I won a fic ho and a jewelry ho and have just remembered that I have to go e-mail them. Oops. Also, our very own [info]trascendenza won my vidding services. :D :D :D Yay! I promise to do my very best to make you an utterly brilliant vid and have fun doing it.

[info]assiduous1:

What time/where do you want to meet on Sunday?

We need to be at Reverend Thomas J. Williams Park by 2:30 in the afternoon...well, 2:38, really, but y'know. Just in case the fabric of reality isn't that good at telling time, give the dream girl a ten-minute space on either side.

There are basic public transport directions at this link. It's not hard to get to--take the green line to Park St., transfer to the red line, take the red line to Davis Square, and then it's a half-mile walk.

Or there's also these directions; we'd take the red line to Alewife, and then it's a short walk.

Amanda needs to be back by 4:30/4:45, although we could still be out and about after we drop her off.

So should we meet up fairly early? There's gonna be a ton of people there, and I know somebody was talking about buying a bunch of kites to sell cheap, and somebody else was talking about selling playpen balls, and a bunch of people were talking about holding a tape measure contest so we could watch that. And there's all kinds of stuff to do in the area.

What do you want to do?

Three days to go! (Is anyone else planning on attending this? It's the xkcd meetup, ftr. At the Reverend Thomas J. Williams Park in Cambridge, Mass., at 2:38PM on Sunday, September 23rd, 2007, about a thousand webcomic fans (see my icon) are going to gather to see if the fabric of reality thins enough to let the dream girl cross over to our side. It's going to be awesome. And awesomely geeky. If you're planning to attend, too, let me know and maybe you can meet up with the three of us!)
